New Old Stuff

This weekend I somehow talked Tim into going to thrifts stores with me. Sometimes he likes this. However usually after about 20 minutes, he's ready to go whereas I can be in one store for at least an hour. Amazingly, I also got him to go to an antique shop (I think happened by me mentioning that it was the place where I got his Omnichord for Xmas and he probably had a glimmer of hope they would have some other cool musical instrument. They didn't.)

Here's some of the cool stuff I got:

Cool hippo toothbrush and soap holder from the 70s (?). I replaced soap with floss. The toothbrushes from the year 2009 don't fit quite right.

Neat little ram figurine from the 50s or 60s...sorta Eames-eraish I think. (The candle stick I got at a thrift store here in Davis for a couple dollars a while back.)

Pictures: One Asian (of course I will pretty much buy anything Asian, but I thought this was especially nice for $4.00); and an orange and blue man. His staring at me while I'm on the couch is sorta starting to creep me out though. I think he was about $2.00 at the thrift store outlet in Woodland (yes, that's right, outlet...plus everything was 1/2 off that day). (The light bulb you see is actually Tim's contribution of "art" to the mantle. We brought here all the way from Chicago and he's had it since before we started dating. You can ask him the details about it.)

The green is from the outlet ($1.50) and the yellow is something I found at the antique shop. It's perfect for my sewing stuff. Right now, it's all shoved into a little plastic case. This was $15.00.

I also found a crappy old mug holder that I decided to paint. I didn't go too crazy though...very unlike me.

Two more finds at the antique shop. The first is the most amazing pitcher for a well-spent $28.00. The last are old buckles for an idea I have, which I can't post here because someone is certain to steal my idea and make millions on Etsy.

Here's what I ended up doing in our living room with a few of my purchases:

I also managed to - after a million months - fix my most favorite lamp ever. I had to put in a new electrical cord. After doing it about 5 times, I finally got it right. Although, I have to admit, I almost unplugged it before going to work today (yes, in addition to actually turning it off). Working with wiring is probably not the best idea for someone that is extremely paranoid of fire and has to check the stove twice before going to bed each night.

I'm looking forward to dragging Tim to some flea markets soon!
